Deanston 12 year old
Nestled in the town of Doune, Deanston distillery is relatively new compared to its peers only opening its doors as a distillery in 1966. Beforehand the site had been a cotton mill founded by Richard Arkwright and had housed the largest water wheel in Europe. Today Deanston distillery still harnesses the power of the river Teith to power itself and many of the surrounding houses.
Deanston’s 12 year old single malt showcases everything that is Deanston. Sweet honey and vanilla with a cookie-dough aroma. The palate is oily and reminiscent of butter popcorn. Most of this malts 12 years is spent in ex bourbon casks but is finished in virgin oak giving a real kick of vanilla on the palate and a longer than expected finish of drying oak.
