Bowmore
Bowmore whisky distillery is the oldest distillery still in operation on the island of Islay by quite a stretch, nearly 40 years ahead of the nearest rival for the title. Bowmore whisky has long been a great malt to work into the heavier Islay whiskies providing a balance between sweet and smoky.
Bowmore still boasts its own maltings, one of the few in Scotland still to have its own, although only around a third of its barley is malted there. Bowmore whisky distillery has two sets of stills producing around 1.3 millions litres of peated spirit every year.
