GlenDronach 8 Year Old The Hielan
Nestled away just outside of Huntly in the north east, GlenDronach is one of Scotlands oldest licenced distilleries, founded by James Allardice in 1826. Renowned for using high quality sherry casks. This whisky is matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks. The name Hielan comes from the dialect that is spoken locally.
Initially there is a note of sharp citrus, with a light floral note. Gradually some stoned fruits shine through and the bourbon casks pass on the influence of fresh vanilla. The palate is very complex, with warm spice like ginger and cardamon, along with burnt sugars and a dry nuttiness. The whisky comes to a pleasant long lasting finish, that leaves a subtle sherried note.
