While Miyashita Shuzo has had a long history of brewing sake and producing shochu, the Okayama distillery was only founded in 2011 when whisky production began. This is the first release of a single malt whisky from the distillery. Okayama is a traditional barley growing region of Japan and the half of the barley used at Okayama distillery is locally grown, more than any other Japanese distillery.
Nose: Zesty fruit as it opens (perhaps even a hint of tropical fruit), developing a fragrant spiciness of crushed pink peppercorn.
Palate: Floral, with a touch of coconut and sweet honey. Still spicy with pepper.
Finish: Light oak spice lingers on the finish.
