The Macallan 12 year old Double Cask
A new addition to the Macallan range, and an unusual one for the distillery. Macallan are famous for using only the finest sherry casks, something I think everyone can agree they do very well. This 12 year old still uses only sherry casks but two different types of oak. First is the more common European oak sherry casks that are full of rich red fruits and tannins. The seconds casks are American oak, that have again previously held sherry, but are very different in character.
The orange zest and spicy ginger so characteristic of Macallan is there but met with sweet vanilla and honey notes from the American oak. A rounded yet delicate palate, sweet and fruity and on to a gentle soft finish.
