Deanston Virgin Oak
The use of virgin oak is slowly becoming more prominent but is still a risky endeavour as you can very quickly end up with a very one dimensional single malt. Deanston however, have not and have instead created a great whisky displaying the possible benefits of virgin oak.
A very fresh single malt from Deanston with green apples and pears leaping out of the glass. Not as much vanilla on the nose as you would think from the use of virgin oak but plenty of honeycomb and sandal wood. The vanilla is very much there on the palate and that characteristic Deanston oiliness is back. A thick syrupy whisky that slides down for a smooth subtle finish.
